INSS Research Intern Alex Richter received the Larry D. Welch deterrence writing award from U.S. Strategic Command Commander Admiral Richard Corral at the STRATCOM Deterrence Symposium in Omaha, Nebraska on August 5. His prize-winning essay is titled “Chinese and US Approaches to Artificial Intelligence in Nuclear Strategy.” While at NDU, Alex completed a research monograph on Chinese military unmanned undersea vehicle operational concepts that will be published by the China Maritime Studies Institute at the Naval War College. INSS congratulates him on his accomplishments as he heads back to the University of California, Berkeley for his senior year.
