Key INSS Stakeholders

INSS is the research component for the National Defense University. INSS fellows conduct applied, high-quality, research in support of the warfighter. The overarching themes are drawn from the National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy, and National Military Strategy. The specific research topics are developed annually in partnership with our Department of War stakeholders. Over 90% of INSS Fellows' research is annually directed by senior officials in the Department of War. The remaining 10% is reserved for "special projects" at the request of the Secretary or Chairman, support to exercises and war games, or independent studies.
