Areas of Expertise: China; Military Technological Innovation, Chinese Defense Industrial Base

Dr. Elliot Ji is a research fellow in the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs within the Institute for National Strategic Studies at NDU. His research areas include China’s military technological innovation, defense industrial base, and military and security affairs. His writings have appeared in peer-reviewed and policy outlets, including the Journal of Strategic Studies, International Affairs, China Leadership Monitor, Foreign Policy, War on the Rocks, The Diplomat, and various think tank publications.

Prior to joining NDU, Dr. Ji was a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the RAND Corporation. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Politics from Princeton University and his B.A. in Political Science from Emory University. While in graduate school, Dr. Ji was the 2021 recipient of the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. He is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese (including classical/literary Chinese) with a 4/4 score on the DLPT5-CA
