Areas of Expertise: Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula; U.S. alliances and force posture in the Indo-Pacific

Dr. Clint Work is a Research Fellow/Faculty in the Center for Strategy and Military Power in the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University. He previously served as Fellow and Director of Academic Affairs at the Korea Economic Institute of America (KEI), Fellow at the Henry L. Stimson Center’s 38 North Program, and as an assistant professor at the University of Utah’s Asia Campus in South Korea. Dr. Work has conducted extensive applied research on U.S. national security policy in the Indo-Pacific, with emphasis on Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula. He has proactively engaged with officials throughout the Departments of Defense and State, United States Forces Korea (USFK), other U.S. national security-related departments and agencies, and with Congress, as well as South Korean and Japanese current and former officials, scholars, and analysts.

Dr. Work has a record of high-quality, peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, policy papers and reports related to the evolution of the U.S. force posture in the Indo-Pacific and on the Korean Peninsula, changes in the military command architecture and allied burden sharing in Northeast Asia, and how the United States and U.S. allies and partners are prepared for multiple regional contingencies. He has written extensively for popular media, including Foreign Policy, the Washington Post, War on the Rocks, The National Interest, The Diplomat Magazine, and 38 North. He regularly provides commentary to U.S. and foreign media outlets. Additionally, Dr. Work has worked with a broad range of universities and state and local organizations throughout the country to foster public engagement on U.S. policy in the Indo-Pacific.

Dr. Work received a Ph.D. in international studies from the University of Washington, a M.A. in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and B.A. in political science and philosophy (with a minor in history) from Boston College. He speaks Spanish and intermediate Korean.
