Mr. Darien Shedrick is the IRB Administrator for the Office of Human Research Protection within the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS), where he oversees compliance and ensures adherence to federal regulations and Department of Defense guidelines across a wide range of projects.
He served for over 11 years in the United States Army as a Combat Medic, holding numerous leadership roles in operations, training management, and emergency medical care. Mr. Shedrick deployed to combat theaters where his medical expertise and operational acumen were critical to mission success. His military awards include the Iraq Campaign Medal (with bronze service star), the Meritorious Unit Citation, the U.S. Army Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the British Parachutist Badge, and various other individual and unit commendations. These roles and recognitions reflect his ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and engage in international collaboration - skills essential to effective research compliance.
Mr. Shedrick holds a Master of Letters (MLitt) in Global Social and Political Theory from the University of St Andrews (St Leonard’s College) and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in International Relations and Politics from Leeds Beckett University. His academic background provides a strong foundation in global governance, ethics, and regulatory frameworks.
Through a combination of academic training and extensive military leadership experience, Mr. Shedrick brings analytical rigor, organizational skill, and ethical decision-making to his role at INSS.
