Ms. Susan G. Stipanovich is the Program Manager for the Program on Irregular Warfare and Special Operations Studies (PIW) at National Defense University, a position she has held since September 2013. She manages the PIW team and serves as a liaison for Naval Special Warfare at academic and government agencies to develop and enhance IW knowledge for the Navy. She also conducts in-depth research on topics of interest and benefit to the Naval Special Warfare community and coordinates with academic institutions to drive discussion on policy related to irregular warfare and Special Operations Forces (SOF).
Prior to this position, Ms. Stipanovich was the Senior Academic Associate at NDU’s Africa Center for Strategic Studies, a position she held for over three years. In this capacity she executed Academic Programs on behalf of the Center in Washington D.C. and throughout Africa and Europe. Her other duties included assisting Senior Faculty with research, report writing, and the formation of course syllabi and serving as a liaison to partner government agencies. From 2008 to 2010 Ms. Stipanovich worked as a Research Analyst for the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at the University of St Andrews where she conducted research relating to UK counter-terrorism policy.
She holds a Masters degree in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and has also studied at the National War College, Georgetown University, and Middlebury College.
